Pros to Traveling with a Travel Company

My first trip abroad (outside of Canada, if you will), was with the company EF College Break.  It was incredible!  I decided to do the St. Paddy’s Day Tour with my friend, Kelsey.  Here are the “Pros to Traveling with a Travel Company” as I’ve discovered through my personal experiences.

1. Convenient

Planning a trip anywhere takes a lot of time and patience.  You research where to stay, what to see, transportation, and you probably spend a decent amount of time on Pinterest looking at all the great things there are in the area. When you go through a travel company, you’re able to rest-easy knowing your planning has been done for you.

2. Stress Free
Being stress-free goes hand-in-hand with the convenience factor.  The only thing you need to stress about is making sure your payments are on time and booking your flight.  Some companies even include flights for you (bonus!). Travel companies usually have a set itinerary but sometimes you’re able to add on extra excursions at certain destinations.  Even the add-on trips are stress-free! Just sign up and show up!

3. Make Friends
I find fast friends when I travel – whether I meet them at a hostel, on the train platform going to Versailles, or in a tour group – travel friends are the best.  You experience new and exciting things together and those memories that you have will always include them. It’s an instant bond. However, sometimes your travel plans might be vastly different than the people you meet so your time spent together is shorter.  When you’re traveling with a company, you are with the same group of people for an extended amount of time.  More than likely you’ll stay in touch well after the trip and plan more trips together in the future.

4. Age Specific Tours

Certain companies attract different age groups which means making friends your age and sharing the same interests is more common.  Companies like EF College Break and Contiki are well known for the “younger” crowd.

5. Guaranteed “cool things to see”
I’ve found that some companies have special access to certain museums, parks, hotels, bars, and shows. You may be paying more for your trip than someone who does the planning on their own, but you were granted exclusive access into events that others weren’t. If you’ve traveled on your own and waited in line to go inside a museum, or eat dinner, and all of the sudden a huge tour group shows up and you just know you’ll have to wait longer, you won’t have to do that IF you’re IN the tour group.

6. Safety Factor
I’ve found this is a huge selling point to a lot of first time travelers.  After movies like Taken came out, traveling in and around Europe puts many parents on high alert when their child says, “Mom! Dad! I’m backpacking through Europe during the Summer!” I’ve personally felt safe when I’ve traveled in a group and/or alone, because I’m a safety first kind of person (call me boring), but traveling in a big group might ease your mind.  It helped ease my nerves when I traveled to Ireland with a company my first time abroad.  After that little tour, I knew I could handle it on my own.  And I did!

7. First-time Travel Nerves

It’s no secret that I suffer from anxiety (you can read about my anxiety in Thailand, here)
. Going abroad for the first time was exciting and adventurous, and way easier than I thought it would be, but I certainly felt a little bit of anxiety prior to my arrival.  Luckily, I was with a friend who helped ease the nerves, but the added bonus of a tour guide and other people my age really helped me work through the fears.

I recommend traveling with a company if you’re on a time crunch and want to see as much as possible.  You can always check out Groupon for their destination deals.  I’ve heard of a few people using Groupon and having a great experience.
